Jacob Lodwick’s Bio

Jacob Lodwick

Jacob Lodwick is a founder and digital architect whose vision has consistently shaped the evolution of internet culture.

Jacob is best known for creating Vimeo, the first self-serve video platform, and first to offer movie-quality HD streaming. Vimeo IPOd in 2021, and now serves millions of customers (and billions of viewers) every year.

The Vimeo team conceived, designed, and built key social media mainstays like Likes, Channels, and algorithmic feeds months and often years before YouTube, Facebook, and other competitors of the Web 2.0 era.

As an angel investor and key early advisor, Jacob helped ignite the growth of Tumblr, which became the nexus of visual culture; MakerBot, which democratized desktop manufacturing; Bleacher Report, which disrupted sports media; and HowGood, which established the standard for supply chain intelligence. He serves as an advisor to BDG Media (owner of W Magazine).

Early in his career, Jacob co-founded CollegeHumor (now Dropout) and scaled it into a dominant force in digital comedy.

Jacob is now focused on the next frontier: building the foundational entertainment systems for the nascent supercreatives of Generation Z.
